Sell Like Your Life Depends On It

by John McIntyre

Would you let a child
run across a busy road?

Imagine this –

You’re a parent.

You have a gorgeous 3 year old daughter.

You live to see her smile and giggle.

You love her more than anything else in the world.

One Saturday, you go for a picnic with your family at a park nearby.

You sit down and prepare food while your gorgeous 3 year old runs around chasing birds.

While preparing a tasty sandwich, you hear her giggling with joy… you smile as you remember a time when you used to enjoy chasing birds around a park.

Suddenly, your thoughts are interrupted by something you see out of the corner of your eyes:

Your beautiful daughter is running towards the busy road next to the park.

If you’re daughter runs onto that road, she’s dead.

Your heart stops as you realize
what’s about to happen…

Now tell me, would you call out to your daughter?

Would you act to prevent her running out onto the road?

OF COURSE you would.

You have a duty of care to your child.

She has a problem (she’s about to run in front of 2000 lbs of moving metal).

You have the solution (you can stop her running out in front of that car).

Therefore –

you have an ETHICAL DUTY to stop your daughter running out onto that road.

If you didn’t stop her… you would rightly be considered inhumane (you’d face jail time too).

Now. Same goes for selling your products and services –

If you have a solution (ie. your product or service) to someone’s problem, you have an ETHICAL DUTY to do everything you can to get them to buy it.

If you don’t, you’ve let them down.

It’s now your fault that they continue to experience that problem.
